Southern Connections - 2019/20

Read our branch's contribution to the City programme. For 2019/20, it only appeared only twice due to programme changes

Altrincham (March 14 2020 / Chris Forth) Hospitality Box

Formed in 1996, YorkCitySouth continue to support York City. Today marks the ninth consecutive season in which we have hosted a hospitality box at Bootham Crescent. Today we welcome 21 of our members.

For many of us, a home game means a 400 mile round trip. Today, 2 of our members are travelling up from the south coast. Roll on a successful end to the season and an end to regional football for City.

We number several season ticket holders amongst our numbers and given their attendance at away games, they rack up over 15,000 miles a year to support City.

The hospitality box is always a good day out for us. Excellent hospitality is provided by YCFC and we get the chance to mingle with players and staff during the day. That said, we look forward to our next hospitality box, hopefully at Monks Cross where we can expect to enjoy 21st century hospitality facilities.

After today’s game, we will present our Player of the Season award.

In London, our branch hosts a series of social evenings throughout the season. In the past 12 months, we‘ve had Paul Barnes, Dean Kiely and Daniel Parslow join us as our guest speakers. Every speaker gave an insightful view of their time with City, their footballing career in general and invariably they included some stories which must stay inside the room, contract negotiations, what goes into their in game drinks bottles on the last day of the season and opinions on footballing personalities.

Check out TOOAB and our web site (York City South) for branch details. Also, our web site includes a comprehensive section on City’s illustrious history.

Finally, even if you are not a member of our branch, you can still support us and York City by signing up to our Easy Fund Raising campaign. Sign up, spend online and a proportion of your spend is donated to us. Last season, it allowed us to make a sizeable donation which allowed City to purchase a state of the art camera system for filming the youth academy’s work at Wiggington Road and this season we made a donation to Daniel Parslow’s testimonial fund.

Brackley (August 10 2019 / Chris Forth) Hello New Season, Goodbye Bootham Crescent

After a good win at Altrincham, we were all frustrated by the home draw on Tuesday night. Nevertheless, here we are unexpectedly back at Bootham Crescent for at least part of another season.

As ever we had members at the opening two games, 2 car loads getting home in the early hours of Wednesday after the Farsley game, just in time to get up for work.

Last season, we had members at every City game, along the way we raised a fair sum of money. In the summer, as a result of our fund raising, we presented City with a state of the art camera system for use at the training ground, it was a direct ask of City’s academy coaches.

Our Easy Fund Raising campaign is ongoing, check our web site for details, sign up and every time you shop online, a portion of your spend becomes a donation to our cause, so it costs you nothing. This season, we will have a number of social events, Dean Kiely will be our guest speaker in October.

This season’s squad looks promising, the best retained from last season plus a please mix of newcomers, experience and younger players, amongst the best in our division, stepping up to full time football. Is Steve McNulty our new Paul Stancliffe and will Dan Maguire (or one of last season’s players) prove to be the prolific scorer every successful team needs?
