FA Cup Round 3 - Stoke (a)
With Stoke coming up in The FA Cup, just a few thoughts on why we can succeed.
- Michael Ingham
- Ben Purkiss
- Djomin Sangare
- Danny Parslow
- David McGurk
- Luke Graham
- James Meredith
- Adam Smith
- Alex Lawless
- Andy Ferrell
- Neil Barrett
- Levi Mackin
- Chris Carruthers
- Richard Brodie
- Michael Gash
- Richard Pacquette
- Michael Rankine
- Plus depth in the reserves
- Martin Foyle
- We score
- Stoke don’t score very often
- And when they do, its usually from a long throw
- Big teams are interested in our strikers, who wants Manny Sidibe or Liam Lawrence
- Stoke’s shirts look like toothpaste
- Andy Porter
- Our players don’t have silly first names like Ab or Am
- We’ve got a sound defence
- Jason McGill
- They’ve got the lumbering Robert Huth with the turning circle of a stricken trawler at centre half (when he’s not injured)
- We’ve got a proper old fashioned ground
- Sophie Hicks
- Who The Hell Was Dudley Kernick? (Ask Frank)
- Tony Pulis is telling supporters to be more realistic for their aims for the season, obviously already preparing the ground for an early FA Cup exit
- Stoke message boards are suggesting all they need to do to beat York is turn up with their second eleven
- FA Cup (1978) Stoke 2 Blyth Spartans 3 and Stoke had a far better side in those days than today
- Martin Foyle, who lives two minutes away from Stoke’s Britannia Stadium, never finished on the losing side as a Port Vale player against Vale’s cross city rivals
- There’s talk of Stoke putting put a reserve side. Remember the Carling Cup when they played their reserves against Portsmouth. Portsmouth 4 Stoke 0. Not a lot to fear
- We had Chris Iwelumo missing sitters last time we played a “big” club, we haven’t now
- We’ve never ever lost at The Brittannia Stadium. Stoke have
- Checking Stoke's online shop, they've just launched a new range of bras. The only cups they'll get their hands on this season
- 1954/5 season, we set a club record of 7 straight wins and went on to reach The FA Cup semi final. We've beaten that record this season, so what price the semi finals (or better) again. Sorry Stoke.
- 1954/5 season, Arthur Bottom set a City record for the quickest ever to 20 goals in a season. That seaon, we went on to reach The FA Cup semi final. Richard Brodie has smashed that record this season, so what price the semi finals (or better) again. Sorry again Stoke.
- Stoke fear our Cup heritage and giant killing exploits. Stoke have no cup history to speak of.
- City have won 4 FA Cup games since Stoke last won in The Cup
- Stoke have a record of losing to non league sides. As recently as 2001, they lost to Nuneaton. They also lost to Hartlepool last season. Hardly a giant to be feared
