Issue 21 - The Editors Speak
Late October, lower mid table, another season taking shape.
Cannot help feeling it is about our rightful home.
One disappointing aspect of the season to date has been the decline of Tom Platt and Tom Allan, 2 of our home grown youngsters who should be a welcome breath of fresh air around the place. Equally, it looks like Ashley Chambers is struggling to kick on. We know what we are getting when we sign free transfer players, but it is the home grown talent that can add an extra spark to the team. Just like Andros Townsend at Spurs.
As this is the first issue of the Nigel Worthington era, it is a big welcome to Nigel and many thanks for preserving our league status in April. Here is hoping for a long and successful reign with City. Whilst at the same time a special word of thanks to Gary Mills for what he did for City. You can read more elsewhere in this issue about Gary.
Bound by Financial Fair Play, it seems that our team is becoming more and more of a team of journeymen, just passing through (downwards bound) and laced with a series of itinerant loanees.
Interesting times ahead.
Our FA Cup performance (hopefully performances, plural) in November will be interesting if all our loanees are excluded from playing by their parent clubs. How will we fair without Brobbel, Whitehouse, Davies and O’Neill.
December should be interesting too. All financial fair play data from 2011/2 will be available to The Football League and they should be in a position to confirm that all clubs adhered to the criteria. More importantly, we will be to see what sanctions are applied to any club that does not meet the criteria. Little clubs with big wage bills and big clubs with big overheads, beware. But you know what they say about statistics (and other financial data).
As ever, thanks to all the people who helped put this issue together and to you for reading it. If you like it, next time you are at Bootham Crescent, buy an extra lottery ticket. If you do not like it, reasons why on the back of a ten pound note to the usual address.
Enjoy the game.
PS In case you are wondering our music correspondent is on long term leave, so no music this time. He tells me he has seen Spizz play live for the first time ever, nearly 35 years after his first number one and done the usual rounds of Deaf School, The Nightingales and Ted Chippington again, all improving with age.
